Bath Time

As part of PK's nighttime routine, we change her diaper, bathe her, and feed her before putting her to bed. We just finished bathing her, and let me tell you - it's almost as traumatic for us as it is for her!

PK hasn't been a fan of bath time even since her first bath at the hospital. She was very subdued the entire day on the day she was born, EXCEPT for when it came time for her bath. It started out just fine. The nurse had her swaddled up as she washed PK's hair, and PK didn't complain one bit. But after the swaddle came off and her tiny body came in contact with the water, all hell broke loose.

Unfortunately, subsequent attempts to bathe her haven't fared so well either. At one point today, for example, she looked at me with these big tearful eyes and I totally lost it, breaking down into tears myself. The hubby tried to console me, but it's a horrible feeling to have your child look at you in a way that says, "Mom, you've let me down."

We did eventually get through the bath, and after drying her off, putting her in a fresh change of clothes, and feeding her, all was well again in PK Land...until the next time we bathe her, that is! Hopefully once she gets more into a routine, she'll get used to having a daily bath and may someday even look forward to it. Until then, I need to work on my bath time armor!

Jade hated her first bath, too, but it didn't take too long for her to transform into a fish! You could try using a different type of bathtub. One of my friends used this "bucket" type bath on her twins, which seems to make them feel more secure.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about bathing her every single night. She's certainly not getting dirty enough to make it a necessity, and you can substitute another activity for it in the bedtime routine, or just make the routine a bit shorter. But you know best, of course. :) Good luck on the baby bathing.
