Feeding Companion

PK's birth has coincided quite nicely with the start of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Let me tell you, the Olympic Games couldn't have come at a better time. The 12-hour time difference means that a lot of the action happens in the wee hours of the morning, which of course coincides with PK's nighttime feedings.

Although I'm still pretty drowsy when I feed into the wee hours of the morning, having the Olympics on makes me more alert and makes the feedings go just a bit more quickly. It'll be a shame when the games are over, as I'm sure I'll be stuck watching infomercials or some equally-trashy late-night TV programming. Or maybe I'll just master the art of reading one-handed...assuming I don't fall asleep while trying to read, which already happens when I'm actually getting enough sleep!

I got so much great reading done while I was breastfeeding Jade in her first year! But that was only during the daytime. Night-time, I'd rather keep the lights down low so she we could both stay drowsy. I'd settle into the rocking chair or the couch, get her latched on, and doze a bit while she nursed. That way I felt like I got a wee bit more sleep, even if it was light. :)

One of my girlfriends told me she was never able to read because she was never able to get her babe to latch right without using her "free" hand to hold her breast in place. In that case, if you need something to do, try getting a hands-free set for your phone so you can chat with someone (daytime, of course!) or you can rent some TV shows on DVD to have something other than The Shopping Network to watch. ;)
