Mommy Time

One of the nice things about taking pre-natal exercise classes through Baby & Me Fitness besides staying in shape throughout my pregnancy and being around other pregnant women is that I made some new friends along the way.

I have to admit that I would not normally befriend women. I am an engineer by training and have mostly been around guys. In fact, I feel more comfortable around guys. After all, guys don't play the catty games that many women play; what you see is what you get. Alas, guys can't give birth, so women friends it is! That's not to say that my old group of friends is no fun. It just means that I've expanded my circle of friends.

At any rate, I've managed to stay in touch with a few of the girls from my classes, and this week I was able to get out to meet up with a couple of them. It was so nice to be able to meet up with other new moms in the middle of the day to just hang out. We are all puttering around at home all day on a normal day. This at least forces us to get out of the house and be social. And when our respective little are old enough, it gives them the opportunity to interact with other kids.

Although I get that some people are just more comfortable around men -- there's definitely a different kind of interaction -- it's kind of sad to know that one of the main reasons for it in your case is "cattiness". Oi!

It's true that women can be catty, but I don't think I've had to deal with that issue since high school. The women in my life now are the women I choose to spend time with and I can't imagine any of them playing ridiculous mind games. Who has the time and energy for that sort of thing?

I'm so glad you've found some women to connect with and hope that they all turn out to be mature WOMEN, whose cattiness was left behind with their high school days. :)

The funny thing is that I found mommy groups to be extremely supportive and sympathetic. Michael said he found groups of daddies to be competitive -- the favourite sport was complaining about how bad things were, who'd slept the least, etc. Ha!

P.S. - would you be able to change the settings on your blog so that I can put in my name and URL instead of using a Blogger account? I'm always on Michael's computer these days (sigh) which means I have to log him out of his Google account and then I feel bad...!
