Well, it looks like PK is having yet another growth spurt. I think this is the third such growth spurt.
Her first growth spurt happened at around 2 or 3 weeks. That's when I was still breast-feeding exclusively but supplementing with formula through a little feeding tube taped to my breasts. I knew it was a growth spurt because my shoddy milk factory couldn't keep up with demand and we ended up having to supplement with more and more formula until we finally decided to just introduce the bottle once and for all.
PK's second growth spurt took place about a month or so ago. She went from taking between 80 and 120ml of formula per feed to 160ml per feed. It also coincided with her starting to sleep through the night (between 8-10 hours per night). After waking up from such a long sleep, she is often famished and drinks about 220ml of formula. Needless to say, we've been having to buy a TON of formula these days!
PK's current growth spurt is not necessarily accompanied by a greater intake of formula; however, she seems to have reverted to her pattern of eating followed by a nap. For about a month or so, she really wasn't into napping except when I put her in the stroller or car seat. Now she has at least one morning nap and two afternoon naps. Also, her feedings are like clockwork - every 3 hours. And I'd better have that bottle ready for her by then, because if I don't, I won't hear the end of it!
I can't complain about her current growth spurt because at least it means that I get a bit of time to myself to do house chores or sit my butt in front of the computer and blog. Granted, the latter hasn't happened all that much since I seem to spend most of my "free" time doing chores. Ugh. The only 2 downsides to PK's über-napping is that I don't get as much playtime with her as I'd like, and I can't bring myself to go for walks when she wakes up because I like to use her alert time for playing.
I just hope that her next growth spurt isn't accompanied by multiple nighttime wake-ups because I sure am getting used to this sleeping through the night thing!
